The school of nursing is open to all qualified students without restriction as to race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status or those with disabilities who are able to meet the demands of the program.
A $50.00 non-refundable processing fee (money order only) must accompany the application.
Application deadline is March 1st.
Admission Criteria
1. High School graduate or G.E.D. The official high school transcript should indicate the date of graduation.
2. High school course of study should include:
- English (4 years)
- Science (2 years) Biology and Chemistry
- Mathematics (2 years) Algebra included
- History (2 years)
- Electives (2 years)
3. High School Class Rank in upper half.
4. SAT Score minimum 800 combined and/or 26 transferable college credits with a grade of 'C' or higher.
5. Two character references or recommendations from professional, education, and/or employment sources. References from family members and friends are not acceptable.
6. Application essay.
7. Satisfactory Nurse Entrance Test (NET).
8. A personal interview.
Bring proof of citizenship or
residency to your interview. (Official birth
certificate if born in the United States, or original copy of
official verification of immigration status if born outside of the
United States)
Note:
The New Jersey College Basic Skills Placement Test is given by Montclair State University, at the University. Students, who have taken a minimum of 26 college credits with a grade of 'C' or above are exempt from this test. Remedial courses in reading, math/algebra and writing skills will be required for those who score below criteria established by the testing source.
International Students
An international student is defined as one who requires a visa for the purpose of study in the United States. International applicants must have completed their secondary education. The following should be submitted in addition to meeting all other criteria for admission. The deadline for completion of records for entrance into the school is February 1.
1. TOEFL Score (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Satisfactory score is required.
2. All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES member evaluation service at the applicant's expense.
3. Statement of ability to meet financial obligations.
4. International students may be required to take the Basic Skills Test.
5. It is the student's responsibility to obtain the appropriate visa before entering the School of Nursing.
Advanced Placement
Applicants who have graduated from a state board approved school of practical nursing and who hold a current New Jersey license may be eligible for advanced placement in the nursing curriculum. Applicants must meet admission and advanced placement criteria of Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing. The School of Nursing honors the New Jersey Articulation Model.
Advanced Placement Criteria
1. Pre-requisite college courses must be completed with a minimum grade of 'C'.
2. Students transferring from another professional school of nursing will have their transcripts evaluated with placement determined on an individual basis. Transfer students must complete a minimum of one year at Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing
Following acceptance:
All students must sub a completed Save A Place form accompanied by a $150. money order (non-refundable) within 2 weeks of acceptance to the school to reserve a place in the class.
Accommodations:
Students requesting academic accommodations based upon an IEP
(Individualized Educational Plan) must provide current documentation
prepared by a licensed professional. Accommodations must be
requested and documentation received prior to beginning the nursing
curriculum. Requests received after beginning the program will
not be honored.
CLINICAL LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS
1. A pre-entrance physical examination and current record of immunization or antibody titer, in accordance with CDC regulations is required.
2. Nurse Assistant Course (4 weeks): July preceding Nursing 110.
Required for all students.
3. Submit Documentation of satisfactory completion of The American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Course for Health Care Providers.
